The “Gheorge Asachi” Technical University of Iasi (TUIASI) has been the first in the Romanian technical universities top since January 2015, in one of the most important higher education institutions global ranking. Thus, according to the Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) latest report, issued by the Cybermetrics Lab (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC), TUIASI stands on the fourth position in the Romanian universities top. The web visibility and impact, and its coverage of the academic excellence, the research performance, the institution’s policies transparency and the involvement level in the local community were criteria taken into account.
“The rank is an acknowledgement of the fact that the Technical University of Iasi fulfilled its third mission – to become visible in the community as a result of its actions, rather than statements. The position testifies on the improvement of the three key elements: international visibility, research and student life, as well as on the fact that the university is sough-after for partnerships. It also proves that the university excels in its endeavors: technology transfer, research and community oriented projects.
This ranking is also bolstering the credentials of any graduate of this university, as it is the first Romanian university in terms of visibility, transparency and academic excellence”, explained Ph. D. Prof. Eng. Irina Lungu, vice-rector of International Affairs and Academic Public Relations at TUIASI.
The factors considered by the ranking board were the Web visibility and impact (in proportion of 50 %), and the institutional activity (50% as well) covering the presence, transparency and excellence in research (scientific publication in relevant magazines, the quotations frequency, etc.).
The main objective of Webometrics is to promote worldwide academic presence on Web in order to increase knowledge transfer from the university to the global community. The rankings occur every six months.
