Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași (TUIASI) leadership has attended the kick-off meeting of the INGENIUM Alliance, held between 24 – 26 January 2023 at the University of Oviedo in Spain. INGENIUM is a European alliance of 10 prestigious universities, including TUIASI.
The delegation was led by Rector Professor Dan CAȘCAVAL, PhD. Eng., Professor Irina LUNGU, Phd. Eng., Vice-rector International Affairs, Professor Maria Carmen LOGHIN, PhD. Eng., Vice-rector Scientific Research, Development and Innovation, Associate Professor Simona Caraiman, Phd. Eng., Vice-rector IT & Digital Communications, and Associate Professor Nicolae Lucanu, Phd. Eng., Director of Access2020 Centre.
The 10 universities high representatives have signed the Collaboration Agreement governing the coordination and the projects of the Alliance in the next four years and have expressed their full support in implementing the INGENIUM project in today’s context of global challenges.
“TUIASI is now one of the 12 Romanian universities that have the honour and the duty of representing our country in European universities consortia. Our joy is even greater, knowing that only eight universities have won this right through competition, the other four being included in said consortia through a process of growing the participants number which took place after the competition”,
said Rector Dan Cașcaval.
In his speech, TUIASI Rector Dan Cașcaval drew a parallel between the academic context of 210 years ago and that of today. The Rector paid homage to Gheorghe Asachi, founder and patron of the University, who had the courage to organise the first engineering program in the capital of Moldova completely taught in Romanian. Now, TUIASI is committed to bring the necessary change in technical higher education in Iași and build the future alongside the nine other universities in the INGENIUM Alliance.
Professor Dan Cașcaval said that a driving force is preserving the cultural inheritance of the University in the mission to achieve new values in the future. In the INGENIUM Alliance, TUIASI is committed to achieve excellence on multiple levels, including better general results, more collaboration projects, a more thorough training of students in the context of their integration in a global society, and developing new research and development projects.
“I think we are the alliance with the most diverse geographical spread, which is a great advantage: we come with some of the most diverse organisational cultures, national cultures, and normative acts. We have the opportunity to learn from each other and to integrate ourselves within this alliance without altering our own identity. Moreover, it’s evident that through the contribution of each university the human resource and the procedural, legal, and knowledge bases of the Alliance are significantly improved”,
explained Rector Dan Cașcaval.
The TUIASI delegation attended the establishment of the INGENIUM Alliance Consortium and Executive Committee, the ten work packaged presentation, with each university’s contributions and responsibilities, and other round tables and workshops. TUIASI is leading Work Kackage (WP) 10 – Impact & Dissemination, and is an active member in all other work packages.
The INGENIUM Alliance seeks to create a European Campus that will operate like a university with ten branches, with a single academic offer for all higher education levels (bachelor’s, master’s and PhD), and a single school management system on its own IT platform. The activities will include a large number of students, academic and administrative staff who will work together to consolidate their work and collaboration skills in an international setting.
