Over 1000 high-school and middle school pupils from the entire County of Iasi participated to the county phase of the “Stefan Procopiu” Creativity in Physics and Technology competition. The event was held on the 29th-30th of March.
The participants were able to enlist in one of the four fields approached in the competition: physics, mechatronics, electronics and electrotechnics. The last three fields were restricted to 11 and 12 degree high-school pupils only. The tests took place, depending on the section, at the “Alexandru cel Bun” school and the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Applied Informatics from the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi.
The pupils – apart from the desired field – were able to choose the way to elaborate their papers. They could enlist to one of the eight sections of the competition: written tests, cooperation workgroups, laboratory techniques, scientific papers, technological physics, information technology, and dissertations on scientific and entrepreneurial subjects. The last section has become part of the competition for the first time this year. It consisted in elaborating individual or team business projects in the fields of physics and entrepreneurship.
The majority enlisted in the written test section. There were approximately 200 individual tests, as well as cooperation groups amounting 102 teams of mainly three pupils. 75 scientific papers were also reviewed, most of them in the plastic arts field. There were 2 maximum score results achieved at the written test section, as well as three teams achieving maximum scores.
“The paper reviewing boards brought together teachers from technical high-schools in Iasi. The University made available the technical support and laboratories for their use”, explained senior lecturer Ph.D. Eng. Cristian Zet, from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Applied Informatics.
The awarding ceremony is to take place on the 12th of April, starting from 10.00, in the Faculty of Mathematics Hall. The “Stefan Procopiu” Creativity in Physics and Technology competition is at its 14th edition and it is addressed to 6th to 12th degree pupils, who are studying physics, mechatronics, electronics, electrotechnics, or automatic control. The competition is organized according to a collaboration agreement involving the Iasi County Board of Education, the Faculty of Physics from the “Al.I. Cuza” University, as well as the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Applied Informatics and the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology from the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi.
